LEH: Minister for Cooperatives and Ladakh Affairs Chering Dorjay today said that PDP-BJP Government is making all efforts to boost agriculture and milk production across Leh district, adding that for this purpose Government is providing loans under Cooperative sector on minimum rate of interest through National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC).
The Minister said this while addressing a meeting of officers from Cooperatives and its allied departments, here today.
Chief Executive Councillor LAHDC Leh DorjeyMotup and Executive Councillor for Agriculture TseringWangdus, Executive Councilor for Health GyalWangyal, Executive Councilor for Tourism TseringSandup, Executive Councilor for Animal and Sheep Husbandry Mumtaz Hussain, Deputy Commissioner, Leh AvnyLavasa besides other senior officers of Cooperatives and allied departments were present on the occasion.
The Minister asked the officers to arrange awareness camps across the district and educate the people about welfare schemes under Cooperative sectors. He asked the officers to encourage farmers to avail benefits of Cooperative welfare schemes that will help them generate healthy income by opening their own ventures.
Chering Dorjay directed the concerned to establish village level cooperative societies and self-help groups to increase the local cooperative produce across the district. He said the vision behind this is to encourage self-employment among youth and promote peasant market for farmers.
He directed the Agriculture and Cooperative department officers to educate farmers for adopting latest technology for increasing quality production by sowing hybrid seeds for seasonal vegetables. He also asked for providing hybrid seeds to farmers by opening sale counters in villages.
During the meeting, discussions were also held about upcoming projects under cooperative sector including protected cultivation by replicating Chinese models of greenhouses, promotion of apricot and sea buckthorn products by maintaining organic nature of this fruits and ensuring batter quality as per international standards, outsourcing packaging or setup local units in Leh and Kargil post analyzing the commercial feasibility under Tetra Packaging, promotion of apricots, sea buckthorn and other herbs using cosmeceutical techniques, establishment of cold storage at large scale in the district, promotion of animal products specially pashmina products and establishment of local motels and shops in both Leh and Kargil district to promote local foods and products.
The Chief Executive Councilor DorjeyMotup expressing his views assured the Minister for that Hill Council Leh will leave no stone unturned to make all the projects of Cooperative a success in the district.
All ECs, DC Leh and officers also gave their constructive feedbacks and valuable suggestions to make all the projects of Cooperative more viable and fruitful.
