JAMMU, Mar 27: A group of people representing different social and religious bodies here on Monday asked the administration and police to provide justice to the parents of Dr Sumedha Sharma, who was murdered on March 8 this year in Janipur area by her alleged lover.
Addressing media persons here, the civil society members claimed that the administration has been testing their patience by not arresting the accused, Dr Johar Ganai of Bhaderwah, and keeping the parents of the deceased doctor in dark about how their daughter was brought to Dr Ganai’ house in Janipur and later killed under a “well-knit conspiracy”.
Shakti Dutt Sharma, Regional Vice-President of Vishwa Hindu Parishad, accompanied by Surinder Sharma, the local corporator, Prabhat Singh, General Secretary of Sanatan Dharam Sabha and representatives of Amar Kshatriya Rajput Sabha, said, “it’s been more than 18 days since Dr Sumedha Sharma was murdered, we’re yet to be told by the police as to who took her to Dr Ganai’s house.”
He said police are deliberately not investigating into the case to shield the accused doctor which is evident from the fact that police thus far don’t know as to how the doors of Dr Ganai were locked when the girl was being murdered.
“There seems a conspiracy behind her murder. Police thus far don’t know who locked Dr Ganai’s doors and who the actual murderers are. The SIT constituted has failed to win the confidence of the people,” he said.
Sharma said that police could have used the CCTV footage to arrest the actual murderers “but they’re deliberately delaying the matter to facilitate the escape of the accused to another hospital of the country in the guise of treatment”.
He further said that it is surprising that police have not arrested the accused thus far.
“Even the medical board constituted in this case has been trying to help the accused doctor. But let us remind them all that we’re not going to remain silent on this issue,” he said.
Sharma said, “both administration and police are testing our patience but we want to remind them that in case Dr Ganai and the other people are not arrested in this case, we will take out fight to the streets and roads to get the needful done.”
