KATHUA, June 15: Former Minister and PCC general secretary, Manjit Singh today appealed the Government to direct Revenue Department officials not to harass displaced persons for one reason or the other.

He said that the package is not being given to the DPs even as two long years have passed.
They alleged the DP families are being forced to face harassment at the hands of Revenue officials who allegedly demanding bribe though their agents to complete the paper formalities.
“Formalities sought by the Revenue Department have become a source of exploitation of the DPs and they are being told to being one documents or other. The Government should ease the process of granting package to the DPs instead the process is made more complicated,” Manjit Singh said.
He said that the agents of Revenue officials like Girdawar and Patwari demand huge bribe for every file to complete and people are forced to give them bribe.  He said that the revenue records of DPs from 1965 and 1971 are in Delhi and records of DPs of 1947 is with the Revenue Department or with the PRO office.
Singh said that the children of DPs should be given reservation like KPs in educational institutions and a board of the DPs should be constituted. He warned that if their demands are not accepted and harassment of DPs is not stopped, they will come on the roads and hold protest against the Government.
