JAMMU, Jan 24: Notwithstanding the cold and bleak interiors of the unfinished building of the Dogri Bhavan, Karan Nagar, the assembly of poets and dedicated team of old and new office bearers and members of Dogri Sanstha celebrated the 70th foundation of the Sanstha with zeal and enthusiasm, here today.
The sense of joy and warmth of that informed the simple but impressive occasion, marked by a poetic symposium, stemmed from the historic achievements of Dogri Sanstha which established on the auspicious day of Basant Panchami in 1944 and played a pivotal role in getting recognition for Dogri as one of the national languages and its inclusion in the 8th Scheduled of the Constitution.
Today’s poetic symposium, with Prof Lalit Magotra as the chief guest, started with welcome address by Chhatrpal, President Dogri Sanstha, who paid tributes to the founders of Sanstha: Ram Nath Shastri, Dinu Bhai Pant, D C Prashant, N D Mishra, B P Sathe and Pandit Sansar Chand Baru. Conducted by Narinder Bhasin, Vice president of Sanstha, today’s kavi goshti, as per the tradition saw majority of poets reciting poems in praise of ‘Basant’, that heralds the spring season and celebrations associated with worship of Saraswati, the goddess of knowledge, music, art and culture.
The poets who recited their poems included Rattan Basotra, K K Shakir, Susheel Baigana, Puran Chand Badgotra, O. P. Sakir, Randhir Singh Raipuria, Promila Jamwal, Indrjit Kesar, Rattan Doshi, Gyaneshwar, Nirmal Vinod Prof Lalit Magotra, Narinder Bhasin, Chhatrpal and Rattan Bhardwaj.
