JAMMU, May 21: In the ongoing spring Theatre Festival, organised by Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, Hill Thespian Theatre Group today performed the play `Sanskaar’, written by Shiv Mehta under the design and direction of Sunil Sharma at Abhinav Theatre Jammu.
The play is a black comedy play of a Dogri family. The play starts with the very old Dogri ritual that was done by ‘Marasn’ ladies who were specially called to sing ‘loaniyan’, which was a song in which the qualities of the deceased person are recalled and people cry. The play revolves around the family whose oldest members had died recently. Ramratan and Shivratan are the grandsons of the dead women who are busy with cremation preparations. By the time there are many disputes occurring due to money, status and jealousy that are affecting the cremation ceremony.
The play mirrors reality of the society that is changing day by day as the people are becoming more and more materialistic while the emotion of attachment and affection is converting into aggression and selfishness.
