Dogra Samaj Trust Delhi organizes cultural evening

JAMMU, Oct 31: Dogra Samaj Trust Delhi organized a cultural gala at IGNCA auditorium, New Delhi.
The evening started with welcoming the special guests Dr. Karan Singh Patron-in-Chief, Dogra Samaj Trust Delhi, Poonam Jamwal Patron of Dogra Samaj Trust Delhi and Dr TD Dogra.
Sandhya Gupta Chairperson Women Club Meri Pehchan invited the trustees of the trust, Jitender Singh Jamwal, renowned singer and music composer and Mahesh Sharma on stage followed by a PPT by Mahesh Sharma on Dogra history, art and culture.
The performances started with Dogri folk songs, Bhakh and Geetdu by Subhash Brahamanu and group from Ram Nagar, J&K followed by world famous Dogri play ‘Bawa Jitto’ written by legendry Padma Shree Ramnath Shastri. This play was presented by Palthyar Nehru Youth Club from Udhampur, J&K and was directed by Sudesh Sultanpuri. Next performance started with a Dogri dance ‘Chuda Kun Kadeya’ by Manju Wazir and group followed by a dance performed on a song sung by legendry late Pt Manmohan Pahari and performed by his daughter Renu Pahari Bassi. Next came the daughter in law of Jammu, Kanika Ghosh Singh with her group and gave a scintillating performance on a song ‘Ghiri Ghata Ghanghor’ sung by Jitender Singh Jamwal. Kashika Bassi a young dancer paid tribute to legendry Lata Mangeshkar andPadma Sachdev by performing on their song ‘Bhala sipaiya dogreya’. Continuing the show, Manju Wazir and Kanika Ghosh Singh performed on a new song ‘uchdi udaan’ written by legendry poet and son of the soil Kunwar Viyogi, composed and sung by Jitender Singh Jamwal. Kriti Singh announced the formation of her brain child ‘Dogra Scouts’, a platform where young Dogra’s can come together and guide each other and make the world a better place by exchanging ideas on Dogra culture, resulting in knowing where they come from. Kick starting the music performances three Dogra girls based in Delhi Kriti Singh, Cherish Banhotra and Kashika Bassi sung a beautiful Dogri folk song ‘aaun galaniyan sachbo’ as an attempt to pay tribute to their Dogra roots. This was an experiment by Jitender Singh Jamwal to bring together young Dogra talent and give them a new platform of hopes, dreams and goals. Next song came in the same series where Kashika Bassi sung a duet folk song ‘chan mada chadeya’ with Jitender Singh Jamwal followed by two foot tapping numbers ‘loko migi taang’ and ‘meow meow kare mera billa’ by world renowned singer and son of the soil Jitender Singh Jamwal. Giving a perfect end to the performances, all the dancers performed the ‘jagarna’, a traditional folk-dance form usually performed in Dogra weddings.
All the artists were honoured by Dr. Karan Singh, with an angavastra and a beautiful Dogra Samaj Trust Delhi customized trophy. On the occasion, Dr Karan Singh sung a Dogri Bhajan paying tribute to Lord Shiva.
