JAMMU, May 25: The Library Committee of Dogra Law College organized an orientation cum training workshop on Supreme Court Cases (SCC) Database.
SCC is the most cited and comprehensive law report by the Supreme Court of India and is published by Eastern Book Company (EBC) – an acknowledged leader in the field of law publishing in India for more than 75 years.
EBC pioneered law information databases for making law easily accessible in the electronic medium as SCC Online’s Case Finder. This Information Database and search program is a proven source for quick retrieval of case-law precedents. The library of Dogra Law College was one of the first libraries in Jammu and Kashmir to be equipped with SCC Online to provide judgments, case laws, bare acts, articles etc.
The workshop was conducted in online mode by Mohit Singh, SCC Online Trainer– Learning Center Eastern Book Co Pvt Ltd. The workshop aimed at giving first-hand information to the BA, LLB (5 Year) and LLB (3 Year) Course students about accessing SCC Online.
Mohit Singh thoroughly explained the search features of SCC Online along with how to do effective legal research on SCC Online. Features like ‘Word Search’, ‘Finding by Citation, Party Name etc’, ‘Search Folders’ and keeping oneself up-to-date in the areas of Law education were also shown to the participants. Students and faculty members were explained the steps to find case law by section, browsing law reports and judgments.
The session was very enlightening as it gave an opportunity to explore the range of e-resources available in Dogra Law Library. The faculty members and students raised several queries with respect to accessing SCC Online which were addressed by Mohit Singh.
Among those present, were Dr Darshana Sharma, Director, DGC; Dr Komila Aggarwal, Principal-in-charge, DLC and faculty members of DLC. Sonika Anand, Librarian, DLC coordinated the session.
