JAMMU, Sept 28: The 25 years old Chain Singh who hailed from a small village, Chainser (Gandoh) in Doda has made the State as well as Chenab Valley proud by winning a bronze medal in the men’s 50 m rifle 3 positions at Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea on Saturday.
Chain Singh stole the thunder from the more fancied Gagan Narang and Sanjeev Rajput, who failed to make the final cut in the 50m rifle 3 position competitions.
He shot a total of 441.7 points to finish behind two Chinese shooters — Cao Yifei and Zhu Qinan — who bagged the first and second positions with 455.5 and 455.2 points to their credit, respectively.
While Singh had entered the finals after finishing seventh in the qualification round, Gagan and Sanjeev failed to make the final cut, ending on 12th and 15th spots, respectively in the qualifiers.
Chain Singh hails from a poor family residing in village Chainser in Gandoh area of Doda district. His father is a farmer and mother, a housewife. He has one younger brother and a sister.
Singh completed his primary education and upper primary education from village schools. After completing his higher secondary education from Higher Secondary School, Kalhotran in Gandoh he joined Indian Army’s JAK LI wing.
Presently posted at Indore, Singh joined Indian shooting team on February 1, 2008.
Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha and Former Chief Minister J&K, Ghulam Nabi Azad has congratulated Chain Singh for winning a bronze medal for the country in the ongoing Asian Games being held in South Korea.
Hailing the spectacular success of Chain Singh, Azad said that his scintillating achievement has made people of Chenab Valley, J&K State as well as the country proud and that it will serve as an inspiration for the younger generation of the State, especially the youth of backward and difficult Chenab Valley region.
Feeling highly elated by the spectacular success of Chain Singh, who hails from his native area in District Doda, Azad wished him many more outstanding successes in the coming days.
Congress leader from Kishtwar, Thakur Randeep Bhandari also congratulated Singh for his achievement. Bhandari said Singh’s achievement will inspire other youth from Chenab Valley to come forward and take part in games.
