SRINAGAR, July 18: The resident doctors today evening had to flee from the SMHS hospital after two of their colleagues were allegedly assaulted by the attendants
The eyewitnesses said that the doctor has suffered injuries in his shoulder and has been shifted to Bone and Joint Hospital Barzulla for treatment.
They also said that as the security men deployed at the spot tried to come in between and save the doctor, one security man was also beaten to a pulp and has also suffered grave injuries.
It did not stop there, the senior residents who reached the spot where it was all happening, were also thrashed and resulted in injuries to few among them and were later admitted there for further treatment.
After the incident, police reached the spot; however, the attendants who had allegedly beaten the doctors had reportedly fled from the spot.
The eyewitnesses said that the doctors have fled from the hospital and are currently assembled outside the hospital.
The doctors said that they will resume their work only after the authorities an ensure a protective atmosphere in the hospital.
It is pertinent to mention here that a similar sort of incident also happened yesterday and following which the doctors had gone on strike which was ended today.
Principal GMC, Dr Samia Rashid had also supported the doctors and had sought security for them. She could not be reached for her comments on the fresh incident of assault.
On today’s incident, a doctor told Excelsior that growing incidents of assault on medicos were a concern and should be addressed by the administration as soon as possible.
“There is confusion, angst already among people, they have to understand that doctors are strained, but at the same time the doctors also have to be passionate-at the same time the administration has to provide security to doctors; this cannot keep on happening,” he said.
