SRINAGAR, Feb 8: Doctors in Kashmir valley today suspended their work and protested over the alleged ‘sexual exploitation’ on a lady doctor by former Minister for Health, Shabir Ahmad Khan.
The massive protest was held at Government Medical College (GMC), Srinagar here.
The doctors were raising slogans against Khan and demanded his arrest.
“It is highly shameful on part of Government that the accused Minister hasn’t been arrested so far. The Government can’t act like a mute spectator,” said Dr. Nisar-ul-Hassan, president of Doctors Association Kashmir.
On Thursday, police in Srinagar registered a case against Khan after a lady doctor approached them alleging he made sexual advances towards her inside his office at Civil Secretariat.
The allegations evoked sharp condemnation from various quarters including opposition, following which Khan resigned from the Ministry.
“The guilty must be brought to book,” Dr Hassan said. “The Minister has committed a heinous crime for which he must be given severe punishment.”
The women doctors said that those women who have faced such “heinous acts” harassments at work places must come forward and lodge complaints.
