JAMMU, May 2: A doctor of a private hospital in Akhnoor town was arrested today following the death of a married woman due to alleged negligence of doctor.
The doctor’s son was also arrested after the family members of the deceased alleged that he attacked them.
According to the reports, a woman identified as Anju Devi (38) wife of Subhash Singh, resident of Khour, who was suffering from cold and fever, this morning went to the clinic of Dr Gafoor Ahmed at Akhnoor for consultation and treatment but as soon as the doctor administered her injection, she collapsed.
The doctor immediately shifted the woman in unconscious condition to nearby Choudhary Hospital owned by him where he declared the patient dead. As soon as the news of death spread, a large number of people, including the woman’s relatives, began protests in the hospital premises. They were demanding arrest of the doctor alleging that the woman died due to negligence of the doctor as she had no serious disease except cold and fever. The Government should seal the hospital and take strict action against its owners and doctors, they asserted.
During the protests, the hospital officials, including the owner’s son, Farzan Ahmed, allegedly attacked the protestors with an iron rod. In the attack, Parveen Singh, brother of the deceased woman, received some injuries. This further tensed the situation but the situation was brought under control by a team of police station Akhnoor, which immediately reached the spot.
