Docs observe strike at DH Kargil against alleged assault on colleague

KARGIL, June 15: Doctors at District Hospital Kargil went today on a pen-down strike for two hours against alleged assault on one of their colleagues at Lal Chowk in Kargil town by police personnel on Sunday.
All the doctors of the Hospital participated in the strike, However, the emergency and indoor services remained open for the patients. The agitating doctors demanded action against the policemen involved in the alleged assault of their colleague.
Briefing the reporters on the incident, a representative of the doctors informed that a doctor named Dr Shujat Ali, Medical Officer at District Hospital Kargil had visited the District Hospital on Sunday to attend one of his patients. He said while returning from the Hospital, Dr Ali carried some goods for domestic use but when he was about to leave in his vehicle, two policemen held him from the collar of his shirt, dragged him out of the vehicle and assaulted him both verbally and physically.
However, concerned Police Inspector Iftikhar Hussain denied any type of physical assault by the policemen and told that it was an extraordinary situation when the Chief Justice motorcade was about to leave from Lal Chowk, Kargil and in this connection, they were vacating the Kargil town.
“A vehicle, probably Alto car was parked on the wrong side. When approached, the owner argued and interrupted the police from performing its duty,” the police officer said, adding, due to an emergency situation he allowed the vehicle owner to leave without any legal action for wrong parking and interruption in performing his duty.
