JAMMu, June 15: For the purpose of generating awareness in favour of the elder citizens of society and in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic, DLSA Samba took the initiative of expanding its outreach activities through virtual mode.
In this direction, an online awareness programme was organized by DLSA Samba under the guidance of Mohd. Akram Chowdhary, Chairman DLSA (principal District and Sessions Judge Samba) and under the supervision of Swati Gupta, Secretary DLSA Samba.
On the occasion, a live interactive panel discussion and awareness session was organized involving Judicial Officers, Panel Lawyers, Para Legal Volunteers, Members of Child Welfare Committee Samba, JJB and Senior Citizens who joined the programme on virtual mode.
The topics of deliberations were “Elder Abuse” and “Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act”. The opening remarks of the programme were given by Mohd. Akram Chowdhary, Chairman DLSA, Samba who emphasised on the concept of ensuring the dignity of the senior citizens in the society and given them due care and respect which they deserved.
Swati Gupta Secretary DLSA, Samba highlighted the various types of elder abuse prevalent in the society and stressed upon the need and importance of taking care of the physical, medical and psychological needs of the ageing and the aged persons during the present time when there are negligible social interactions.
Pooja Raina, Munsiff also joined the deliberations and enlightened the participants on the concept.
Ajay Gupta, Retainer Advocate discussed the nuances of the “Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act” and discussed the various aspects of financial security of the Senior Citizens through the maintenance provision.
