DLSA celebrates International Justice Day

UDHAMPUR, July 17: District Legal Services Authority Udhampur observed World Day for International Justice here today at the Bar auditorium. The aim of the day was to promote international criminal justice and as a way of supporting the work of the ICC.
The programme was held under the chairmanship of Chairman District Legal Services Authority, Principal District & Session Judge Mohan Lal Manhas. Beside others, Additional Session Judge Sobha Ram Gandhi, Chief Judicial Magistrate Mohammed Rafiq Chak, Secretary DLSA Sub Judge M S Sandeep Kour, President Udhampur Bar Association Jagdev Singh Slathia and a number of Bar members were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Chairman District Legal Services Authority Mohan Lal Manhas and Secy DLSA Sandeep Kour said that World Day for International Justice, also referred to as Day of International Criminal Justice or International Justice Day, is an International Day celebrated throughout the world on July 17 as part of an effort to recognize the emerging system of international criminal justice. They added that the aim of observing International Justice Day is to unite everyone who wants to support justice as well as promote victims’ rights. “It is to help prevent serious crimes and those that put the peace, security and well-being of the world at risk,” they added.
President Bar, Jagdev Singh Slathia, Advocate Bharat Bhushan Sharma, Advocate Gulshan Singh Shan Advocate Sanjit Kumar and Ranjit Parihar, while speaking on the occasion, said that World Day for International Justice is celebrated every year to mark the importance of International Criminal Court (ICC) and for the people to pay attention for serious crimes happening around the world. They added that the day is the anniversary of the adoption of the Rome Statute in 1998. With the help of this treaty International Criminal Court (ICC) was established.
They added that The World Day for International Justice is to spread awareness among the citizens so that this crime can be at a halt from the basic level itself. They added that day is to remark that justice is not a legal obligation or institutional responsibility rather a moral realization and necessity. Secretary DLSA, Sandeep Kour presented vote of thanks at the end of programme.
