JAMMU, MARCH, 29: The Equal Opportunity Cell (EOC) of Department of Lifelong Learning, University of Jammu, in collaboration with Govt. College for Women, Gandhi Nagar organized a one day workshop on “Gender Sensitization” in the college here today.
Dr. Kavita Suri, Director and Head, Department of Lifelong Learning, University of Jammu, Prof. Poonam Dhawan, former DAA, University of Jammu, Prof. Kiran Bakshi, Principal of the college, Prof. Neeru Sharma, HOD, Department of Home Science, University of Jammu, Ms. Anita Katal, Incharge Women Cell, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, Dr. Anjali Bhat, Convenor, Centre for Women Studies, GCW, Gandhi Nagar, Dr. Rewa Khajuria, Counsellor, EIAB, DLL,JU and senior faculty of the college were also present on the occasion.
While welcoming the guests, Prof. Kiran Bakshi said that activities like this are very important for empowerment of the students who are the future of the society. The activity is being held during the auspicious occasion of Navratras -the days of strength and wisdom, a must requirement for the successes of young generation.
While throwing light on the objective of the programme, Dr. Kavita Suri, Director DLL said It is must to make students aware about the difference between sex and gender.
Ms Anita Katal, Incharge Women Cell, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu encouraged the girls to take the help of police at the time of any need. The students came out with their various issues which were very well tackled by the lady Police officer.
Prof. Poonam Dhawan, former, DAA, JU threw light on the patriarchal mindset and stressed on the need to bring about a change in the society. Prof. Neeru Sharma, head department of Home Science, JU in a very impressive group activity tried to know the views of girls students on gender issues.
The vote of thanks was presented by Prof. Anjali Bhat, Convenor, Centre for Women Studies, GCW Gandhi Nagar. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Rewa Khajuria, Counsellor, Department of Lifelong Learning, JU.
