JAMMU, May 28: The Department of Youth Services and Sports (YSS), J&K, concluded it’s District Level Inter-Zonal Sports Competitions, held at MA Stadium, Parade Ground and other venues, here. The event witnessed energetic participation from over 500 student athletes representing Government and private schools across the district.
The highlight of the day came as Zone Gandhi Nagar dominated the scoreboard, clinching the Badminton U-14 Girls title with a 2-0 win over Zone Jammu at MA Stadium. At Parade Ground, the zone continued its winning streak, securing the U-14 Boys Football title by defeating Zone Jammu by 1-0 and the U-17 Boys Football title by outplaying Zone Satwari by 3-0.
Director General (YSS), Rajinder Singh Tara, commended the performances, stating, “These events serve as an attestation to the dedication and potential of our youth. Sports not only build strong bodies but also instill discipline, teamwork, and perseverance—key elements of holistic growth.” He was accompanied by Jatinder Mishra, Deputy Director Central.
In other results, Cluster Zones Akhnoor, Jourian, Khour & Chowki Choura won the Kabaddi U-17 Boys match against Jammu, Dansal, Marh & Bhalwal by 56-40. In Volleyball U-14 Girls, Zone Satwari, Gandhi Nagar & Miran Sahib triumphed by 2-1. Sadhya, Nidhya and Kabit took top spots in Yoga U-14 Girls, while Trishiva Proch and Kevya Sarmal led in Gymnastics.
DYSSO Jammu, Sukhdev Raj Sharma, praised the youth for their enthusiasm and encouraged continued participation in sports to foster a healthy and disciplined lifestyle. The event was supported by technical officials including Harvinder Kour, Usha Fotedar, Ram Murti, Auinash Kumari, Joginder Singh, Ajay Kumar, Nirmal Singh and Yash Paul Sharma.
