It has been reported and telecast on local media that on Independence Day Aug 15, the Tricolour was displayed wrongly on the pilot vehicles carrying ministers who inspected the guard of honour and took salute of the march past. At one function held in Baramulla, the Flag had been displayed upside down, on the pilot jeep, while as in Pulwama, the flag was fluttering on the left side, and in Shopian the pilot jeep had neither the tri-colour, nor the State flag. The lapses tantamount to violation of Flag code 2002 where in guidelines have been provided for proper display of the flag. One hopes that the people managing official functions where national flag and state flags are required to be in use follow guidelines as enshrined in the Flag Code 2002 strictly. It is a matter of national respect and can’t be compromised.
