Discussion on role of legal services authorities organized

Doda, Nov 12: Legal Services Committee Doda today organized a programme in connection with observance of Legal Services Day.
In this programme judicial officers posted at Head Quarter Doda, lawyers, litigants, para-legal volunteers and other persons from social strata of Doda participated. Interactive discussion was held regarding the role of legal services authorities and the object to be achieved by the Legal Services Act, 1997.
Rajeev Gupta, Chairman Tehsil Legal Services Committee, Doda, initiated the interactive progrmme and highlighted various facets of Legal Services Act and working of authorities, to achieve the goal of awareness among the masses about their legal rights and Alternative Disputes Redressal Mechanism as effective tool for timely justice.
Tahir Khurshid Raina, Additional District & Sessions Judge, Doda was the chief guest of the function. He spoke about practical aspects pertaining to the working of legal services authorities and the progress which so far has been made in achieving the goals set out in the Legal Services Act.
Special mention was made about the role of lawyers in facilitating the disposal of cases at litigation and pre-litigation stages. It was highlighted that in the welfare legislations like accident claims and maintenance cases, the lawyers should feel it as their moral and professional duty to facilitate expeditious disposal of such cases, preferably through alternative dispute redressal mechanism.
In the interactive discussion, the speakers and participants appreciated the role of Legal Services authorities and also the remarkable work which is being done in achieving the goals set out in the Legal Services Act. It was highlighted by the speakers that the Legal Services Committees are performing the role of catalyst of social change. People, especially those living in far flung areas and those who are neglected in the society, are being made aware of their rights provided under the Constitution of India and other welfare legislations. By the efforts of Legal Services institution, such neglected people are becoming more and more aware about their rights and are making all efforts to ameliorate their social conditions.
