JAMMU, Nov 24: Inspector General of Police (IGP), Jammu Dilbag Singh today distributed prizes to the winners and the runners-up teams of T20 Cricket Tournament, being organized by J&K Police under Civic Action Programme at Fawara Garden Poonch.
The prize distribution marked the inauguration of the Youth Club Poonch by the chief guest in presence of Deputy Commissioner Poonch, DIG Rajouri-Poonch Range, prominent people of Poonch, eminent citizens, college staff and students. The club building which was lying idle in the past was made operational under Civic Action Programme (CAP) with the support of District administration. The main objective of the Youth Club is to inculcate the spirit of competitiveness among aspiring youth of Poonch in the fields of competitive exams and indoor and outdoor sports activities. A library with reading room and internet facility has been installed along side indoor games of Billiards, Table Tennis, Chess and Carom alongwith Badminton as outdoor in the club which will be governed by a governing council constituted for the purpose.
While interacting with Youth of Poonch present on the occasion, the IGP stressed upon them to utilize the facilities that were being made available to them in the right spirit and also provide feed back from time to time so that the purpose of the club does not get defeated. The enthusiastic youth thanked J&K Police for providing them such opportunity at the door step and assured that the motive behind formation of the club will not go down.
On the sidelines of opening of youth club, T-20 Police Martyrs T-20 Cricket Tournament which was being held by District Police Poonch under Civic Action Programme for the last three weeks also culminated with the final match played between YCC Poonch and LoC Rajouri. The tournament was organized on behalf of Range Police Rajouri-Poonch Range under CAP. 31 teams with more than 400 players from the districts of Rajouri and Poonch participated in the tournament.h witnessed a huge turn of spectators daily to enjoy the game.
The match was won by YCC Poonch by 12 runs who had scored 152 runs while batting first. Mohd Asif of LoC team was declared as man of the series for playing outstandingly in the tournament. A trophy and a cash prize of Rs.5000/- was awarded to runners team, whereas Rs.10000/- cash prize was awarded to the winner team of the tournament alongwith trophy.
