JAMMU, Jan 1: In order to review the pace of digitization of television cable network in the State under the Digital Addressable System (DAS), a meeting was held here today with Director Information, Mukhtar ul Aziz in chair.
The meeting was attended by senior officers of the Department besides representatives of digital and cable television networks including multi system operators and distributors.
The meeting reviewed the preparedness for switch over to digital mode of television signals from the present analogue mode and it was noted that efforts would be made to complete the coverage before the cut off date for which the representatives of cable industry vowed all support.
The digitization of cable network was launched throughout the country in 2012 and in the first phase digitization of four metros was completed. During the second phase 35 cities including Srinagar were covered under the cable digitization process and under current third phase entire municipal areas of the State including Jammu are targeted for the purpose for which the cut off date has been fixed as December 31, 2015 by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting.
Addressing the meeting, the Director Information, who has been designated as Nodal Officer for DAS by the Government stressed on close co-operation between the Department and the cable operators. He also underlined the need for launching an awareness drive among consumers for switch over to digital mode. He also suggested creation of data base of cable operators and users in the State.
