Utter chaotic conditions are prevailing in Government Medical College and Hospital in regard to providing morning diet to the patients. For three consecutive days patients have gone without morning diet. The reason is the chronic apathy and irresponsible attitude of the hospital administration and concerned agencies in the Government. Contractor is pained that they were forced to stop supply of diet because arrears running in hundreds of lakhs have not been cleared by the GMCH and its affiliates. The contracting agency made several requests to the authorities to clear the backlog enabling them to continue supply of morning diet. Failing to elicit positive response from the GMCH authorities they had shot a letter warning that if arrears of payment were not cleared before June 1, 2015 they would be forced to stop the supplies. They have been left with no alternative.
We cannot understand why this administrative failure is allowed to happen? Why have the arrears accumulated? There must be some reason for this huge accumulation. Department of Health Services should order enquiry into this chaotic condition and regularize the payment to the contractors so that in future such a depressing situation does not arise. Apathy and negligence of authorities concerned should not become the source of inconvenience for the patients for no fault of theirs.
