DHSJ holds workshop on bio-medical waste management

JAMMU, Nov 24: Directorate of Health Services Jammu (DHSJ), under the leadership of Director Dr Abdul Hamid Zargar, conducted a skill enhancement workshop on bio-medical waste management at conference hall of the Directorate.
The workshop aimed at reinforcing safe waste-handling practices across all districts of the Jammu Division. Nodal Officers, Incharges, and paramedical staff from multiple health institutions took part in the programme.
The event opened with remarks from Assistant Director, Health Education Bureau, Dr Simmi, who underlined the critical role of systematic segregation, storage, transportation, and disposal of bio-medical waste in safeguarding patients, healthcare workers and the environment.
Expert resource persons included Dr Anju Sidha from the Pollution Control Board, who elaborated on the legal aspects of the Bio-Medical Waste Management Rules 2016, along with Manglesh, Finance Head at Anmol Health Care and Ayaz Ali. Their sessions covered key areas such as updated regulatory provisions, colour-coded segregation protocols, procedures for on-site handling and secure transportation, proper usage of personal protective equipment (PPE), identification of common lapses and mitigation measures, as well as documentation, reporting mechanisms, and compliance obligations.
Participants were guided through practical demonstrations and interactive discussions designed to strengthen operational understanding. The speakers highlighted the importance of consistent adherence to regulatory standards and the necessity of ongoing supervision to maintain compliance across healthcare facilities.
The workshop concluded with a valedictory session during which certificates of participation were presented by the Director Health Services Jammu.
Officials from DHSJ emphasized that sustained capacity-building initiatives of this nature contribute significantly to strengthening service delivery systems and maintaining hygiene standards within healthcare institutions.
The event wrapped up with closing observations acknowledging the engagement of the resource personnel and participants, reflecting a shared commitment to advancing bio-medical waste management practices throughout the division.
