A Govt School functioning in the ‘ruins’ in Mendhar. - Excelsior/Nazki

MENDHAR, Oct 25:  One may not believe but it is true that a Government Middle School in border tehsil of  Mendhar is closed and the children are asked to leave for their homes when there is rain or bad weather.
The reason behind may not get digested to anyone, but is again true that this school building has no roof. The school building has almost been reduced to a ruin with a few walls left while tins have gone missing in storm.
There is no infrastructure at all in the school and a few broken chairs are available for three teachers posted there. The students are made to sit on the ground as there are no jute matting available.  There are no black boards and others teaching aids available in the school. The studies are also suffering due to irregular `physical attendance’ of the teachers.
On any rainy day or bad weather in view of chilling cold, the school is closed and students are asked to leave for their homes. Marking attendance and visiting school turn by turn is the routine of the teachers there.
Village Naib Sarpanch Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din said in 2007 construction of a new building comprising of three rooms, a Veranda and an office, was started under SSA scheme at the village by the Education Department but the work was abandoned midway by the contractor due to unknown reasons. The substandard material was used as a result the building also collapsed after some time. The senior officers of the department including ZEO and CEO Poonch remained sleeping over the matter despite repeated requests to hold inquiry into the matter and take action in this regard. Even the repair work of the existing school was never initiated. He said there was no one in the administration and even the SDM, CEO, DC or the concerned MLA did not listen to the grievances of the people of this area.
