Dhanwantri Jayanti celebrated with fervour, gaiety across Jammu

JAMMU, Oct 17: Lord Dhanwantri Jayanti the God of Ayurveda was celebrated with fervour and gaiety across the Jammu region today.
In connection with the celebration of Dhanwantri Jayanti a grand function was held in Government Ayurvedic Hospital Jammu.  Rajesh Gupta, MLA Jammu East and Chairman Rogi Kalyan Samiti Government Ayurvedic Hospital, Jammu was the chief guest on the occasion.
In his address Gupta said that this hospital has achieved many goals during the tenure of this Rogi Kalyan Samiti under his leadership. He said that the total annual OPD of this hospital which was 19316 in 2013-14 has increased to 50072 in 2016-2017. OPD is started in new air-conditioned OPD block. The surroundings of this hospital were made pucca and the lawn is being converted into Herbal Demo Park with the support of Constituency Development Fund.  Panchkarma Section and the Surgery Section of this hospital beside other sections have done marvelous achievements within the limited resources.
He said this is for the first time in the history of this Hospital that Brass statue of Bhagwan Dhanwantri was installed. A hawan Yajna was performed on the occasion.
Another function was organised by Indigenous Medicines Organisation (IMO) Jammu in connection with celebration of Dhanwantri Jayanti. The function was held under the chairmanship of Dr K K Gandotra retired Deputy Director, ISM in which large number of professionals participated.
While paying floral tributes Dr Gandotra stressed on the fraternity of ISM doctors and para medical staff to follow the path shown by Lord Dhanwantri. Dr Som Dutt Patron of the IMO expressed satisfaction over the Government decision to start Ayurvedic  College form this year  and demanded that faculty posts should be crated strictly as per CCIM norms.
Dr Mahesh Sharma general secretary, IMO also spoke on the occasion and stressed on the need to educate the people about health and hygiene. Dr Anil Sharma, Dr Pawan Pandita and Dr Virender Sharma were other speakers.
Jammu Kashmir Chapter of All India Ayurvedic Congress in collaboration with NGO Ayurvedic Society  for Health Awareness celebrated the day under the chairmanship of its president, Dr B R Sharma. A traditional hawan commenced with Dhanwantri Vandana and the function was attended by a large number of Ayurvedic professionals and members of the civil society.
Dr H N Pathwari former Deputy Director ISM spoke about historical contribution made by Dhanwantri in the field of Ayurveda and its relevance today. Dr T R Gupta, Dr B R Sharma, Dr S S Sambyal and Dr B D Gupta also spoke on the occasion. The vote of thanks was proposed by Er B M Kohli.
Dhanwantri Day was also celebrated in the premises of Rahul Pharmacy Gangyal, Jammu in cooperation with IMO. The GoI has declared Dhanwantri Jayanti as Ayurveda Day and this year the Ministry of AYUSH declared a theme pain management through Ayurveda.
