SAMBA, Oct 8: Running the district Hospital Samba on crutches is not only worrying the patients visiting there daily for treatment but closing of CT scan and X-ray machines after the noon everyday has also compounded their worries to a great extent with authorities at the helm of affairs are totally unmoved.
According to the report, the lack of doctors and para medical staff in District Hospital Samba is not only worrying the patients coming there for treatment, but non conducting of bodily examinations by CT Scan machine and X -ray machines after the 2pm in the hospital has constantly added to their woes. If a patient has to get emergency CT Scan or X-ray done in afternoon, then he is to be forced to visit a private clinic and get the examinations conducted at a hefty price, sources said.
While talking to this reporter one patient namely, Sanju Kumar said that the CT Scan machine and X Ray machines are shut down in the district hospital after 2 pm daily, forcing people to get X-rays conducted in private clinic.
The people of district Samba have appealed to Governor, Satya Pal Malik to issue strict directives to the authorities concerned to run 24-hour city scan and X -Ray machines in the District Hospital Samba so that people do not face any problem.
Sources said the District Hospital Samba is also running on the basis of Paramedical students due to the shortage of doctors and other staff but the concerned authorities are in deep slumber.
The people alleged that despite putting the demand in front of the successive governments and district administration Samba regarding the filling up of vacant posts of doctors and para medical staff in District Hospital Samba but to no avail.
They said the facilities at the DH Samba are like of a Primary Health Centre. Due to the shortage of doctors and para medical staff as well as technicians to run X- Ray, Ultrasound and City Scan machines, people are not able to get the benefit to these facilities especially during the evening hours and night time.
One Kuldeep Kumar of Samba said due to shortage of staff, the patients are treated by the paramedical students. The hospital is located on National Highway and people injured during the road mishaps in the Hospital are referred to GMC or some of the attendants shift them to Punjab on their own due to lack of facilities in the Hospital.
Karan Kumar another local of Samba said that District Hospital Samba is famous on the name of `refer hospital’ as no specialist is available during night time. Only one Medical Officer deals all the patients. Although the Government constructed the doctors quarters so that they can stay there in night but few doctors stay in these quarters and others return to their home towns.
He said that maximum doctors come in District Hospital Samba during the OPD time after completing their OPD they again return back for their residence.
He demanded that adequate doctors and other staff be provided to DH Samba with all necessary facilities so that the poor people don’t face any problem.
When this correspondent contacted CMO, Samba, Rajinder Samyal, he said “ due to lack of staff in the hospital, we stopped the X ray machine and CT scan tests after the after noon because we have very less staff in the Government District Hospital Samba”.
