JAMMU:
As many as 48 candidates are in the fray for the much-awaited elections of District Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee, scheduled to be held here tomorrow.
Earlier, 70 candidates had filed their nominations for the elections but after withdrawal, 48 are left in the fray, Assistant Commissioner, Revenue Sher Singh, who is also the Returning Officer for the polls, said here.
Mr Singh said after scrutiny of the documents, the final 48 contestants were left in the race. He said around 90,000 voters were expected to cast their votes, adding that all security measures will be put in place during the process.
“Total 127 polling stations have been set up in constituencies comprising Gadi Garh, Digana, Bishnah, RS Pura, Jammu West, Jammu East, Akhnoor, Nanak Nagar and other areas, which will undergo polling”, he said and added that the elections, which were already due and got delayed in view of some dispute followed by a stay order issued by the Court, will surely be held in a conducive and cordial atmosphere.
The polling process will begin at 0800 hrs and conclude at 1700 hrs and the results would be declared on July 9, he maintained.
“Adequate security arrangements have been made in the entire district, while all Zonal Offices have been briefed on the security issue”, Rajiv Pandey, Additional SSP, Jammu said. (AGENCIES)
