DGP reviews security arrangements for Eid, Yatra

SRINAGAR, May 26: Director General of Police, Nalin Prabhat, today chaired a high-level meeting at Police Control Room Kashmir to review security arrangements for Eid-Ul-Adha and Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra-2026 (SANJY-2026), directing all agencies to maintain strict vigilance and ensure smooth conduct of the upcoming events.
A spokesperson said the meeting was attended by senior officers of J&K Police, CRPF, BSF, ITBP, SSB, CISF, Traffic Police, Railways and Army, including the IGP Kashmir Zone, range DIsG and district SSPs of Kashmir. During the meeting, the DGP stressed the need for strong security and better coordination among agencies. “Ensure comprehensive crowd management arrangements at mosques and major congregation venues during Eid celebrations,” the DGP told officers, according to the spokesperson.
He directed officers to strengthen security at sensitive places, intensify patrolling and enhance surveillance to prevent any untoward incident.
Regarding the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, the DGP asked officers to ensure strict implementation of SOPs and maintain heightened alertness along the pilgrimage routes. “Field formations must intensify efforts to dismantle the terror ecosystem and strengthen area domination along the yatra routes,” he said, as per the spokesperson.
The spokesperson said directions were also issued for deployment of anti-sabotage teams and use of advanced surveillance systems for real-time monitoring and threat detection.
Meanwhile, SSP Anantnag Amod Ashok Nagpure conducted an on-ground review of arrangements along the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra route in the district.
The spokesperson said the SSP inspected security arrangements, traffic regulation, emergency response systems and pilgrim facilities at various locations.”The successful conduct of Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra requires close cooperation between police, civil administration and the local community,” SSP Nagpure said during interactions with local representatives.
He reiterated that Anantnag Police was committed to ensuring a “safe, secure and hassle-free pilgrimage” for devotees.
In a separate development, police in Shopian visited families of police martyrs on the eve of Eid-Ul-Adha and extended greetings to them.
According to the spokesperson, officers paid tributes to the martyrs and assured their families of continued support and assistance. “The courage, dedication and selfless service of our martyrs will always remain a source of inspiration for future generations,” the officers told the families, the spokesperson added.
