DGP reviews railway security in J&K

JAMMU, Dec 20: Director General of Police, J&K, RR Swain, today conducted a comprehensive review of the railway security and the functioning of the Government Railway Police (GRP) in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
During his visit to the GRP Headquarters in Jammu, Swain chaired an officers’ meeting where he emphasized the need to enhance surveillance capabilities by identifying and addressing deficiencies at all levels, particularly at the supervisory level.
Swain directed officers to delve deeper into past incidents, ascertain the present status and whereabouts of individuals involved, and investigate the underlying factors. Emphasizing curiosity and thoroughness in investigations, he urged the officers to explore all angles and possibilities.
The DGP stressed the importance of leveraging technology, including the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS), for efficient searches and intelligence gathering.
Addressing challenges, he emphasized strengthening access control at railway stations and their peripheries to prevent the transportation of weapons, explosives, or narcotics.
While acknowledging existing efforts, Swain called for enhanced preventive and detective capabilities, focusing on enforcement, investigation, and intelligence gathering.
He urged officers to identify resources for funding and directed a smart approach to resource projection.
ADGP Railways Sunil Kumar provided a detailed presentation during the meeting, outlining the roles of various forces, including GRP, RPF, police, CAPFs, and private agencies.
Discussions included stakeholder responsibilities, the administrative and structural setup of GRP, and the security plan for the Katra-Banihal Section of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Railway Line spanning 111 kilometers.
As a symbol of environmental awareness, DGP RR Swain also planted a sapling in the lawns of the GRP Headquarters.
The meeting was attended by ADGP Railways Sunil Kumar, DIG Railways Haseeb-ur-Rehman, DIG Traffic Shridhar Patil, and Senior Superintendents of Police of GRP in Jammu, Kashmir, and Katra, along with the Special Officer to ADGP Railway.
