LEH, Sept 9: DGP J&K Dilbag Singh who is on a visit to Ladakh Division today paid homage at Siachen War Memorial and interacted with Army officers.
In the morning, the DGP visited the Siachen base camp where he was received by the Base Commander, Col Kuldeep Singh Dahiya. He interacted with the Army officers at the base camp. The Base Commander briefed the DGP. The DGP also watched a documentary regarding the Siachen highlighting the valour and sacrifices of the Indian Army in the sector.
The DGP paid homage at the Siachen War Memorial by laying a floral wreath. Major Ravi Rana gave a resume of this War Memorial on the occasion. The DGP also visited the Siachen Battle School where he was briefed about the training of the Army personnel and equipment being utilized in the area.
Later on, the DGP visited Turtuk and addressed a public gathering. The DGP said, “The border area of Turtuk is unique in many ways including its culture. It attracts a number of tourists every year. He complemented the people for preservation of their culture and ethos”.
Referring to some demands put forth before him, the visiting chief of Police assured that the grievances and demands would be taken up at the highest level of administration and those concerning the police department will be solved immediately. He said that the youth, particularly girls of the area should prepare and actively take part in the recruitment of border battalion and women battalion which will be taken up shortly.
The DGP announced that police will provide assistance in establishing a library and providing books and stationery items to students particularly girls. He also announced that under CAP district administration will make a proposal for organizing a Polo Cup at Turtuk.
Earlier DIG CKR, VK Birdhi in his address, said that DGP J&K was very keen on visiting Turtuk and wanted to meet the people. Mehdi Counsellor from Turtuk constituency in LAHDC also put forth some demands. He also submitted a memorandum to the DGP.
SSP Leh, Sargun Shukla put forth certain suggestions with regard to engagement of the youth of the area.
