Srinagar, Sept 7: Dilbagh Singh who took over charge of DGP J&K today, met Governor Satya Pal Malik at Raj Bhavan.
Singh briefed Governor about present internal security situation and many important matters relating to law and order challenges before the J&K Police.
Governor discussed with him various issues relating to welfare of police personnel and their families particularly the housing needs of the police. He wished him a successful tenure and urged him to keep public interest foremost in discharge of his duty.
Abdul Haq Khan, MLA Lolab also met Governor and
briefed him about to-date status of various important development projects in his Constituency. He urged Governor that the work on recently tendered two vital power projects at Donard, Lolab and Machil, Kalarus in frontier areas of north Kashmir must be started at the earliest as people of the areas were facing immense hardships.
Khan informed Governor that the timely implementation of these projects will not only provide robust power supply to the whole district but it would also benefit the irrigation and other sectors. He also urged Governor that the Lolab-Bandipora road shall be taken up at the earliest in order to provide the vital road link between the two important district headquarters of Kupwara and Bandipora.
Governor appreciated Khan’s concerns and urged him to continue sustained efforts for promoting people’s welfare in the border areas of north Kashmir.
Meanwhile, a delegation of Bharatiya Janata Party led by MLC Sofi Yusuf, met Governor and apprised him about various issues of public importance and discussed with him their perception relating to pace of flood management works in the State, development benefits that can accrue from establishing self governing institutes at grass root level, provision of good roads, uninterrupted power supply, strengthening public grievance redressal mechanism at District, Division and State level, expediting work on AIIMS in Jammu etc. They also demanded constitution of Gujjar and Bakerwal Regiment in the Army to provide employment opportunities to brave people belonging to these two tribes.
Governor assured the delegation to give due consideration to their demands and observed that he has already issued instructions to PDD for augmenting its power distribution and transmission system so that uninterrupted power supply could be given to people particularly during festivals and during time when students prepare for examinations.
Charanjeet Singh Khalsa, Member, J&K Legislative Council, called also on Governor and apprised him about several matters relating to promotion of public welfare, ensuring all round development of the State and hardships being faced by the Sikh community in J&K, particularly by the migrated Sikh families from Pak Occupied J&K (POJK) and those affected due to terrorism in the Valley.
Governor advised the MLC to vigorously continue his endeavors for ensuring public welfare and strengthening communal harmony between all communities.
M. Ramachandran, Former Union Secretary also met Governor and discussed a range of issues relating to growth and development of the country and challenges of Urban Development in developing countries like India. They also discussed need for well planned approach to meet challenges of urban growth in fast growing capital cities of Jammu and Srinagar and the Holy town of Katra which has high footfall of pilgrims from all over the country.
