JAMMU, June 4: The Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh has appointed the Director General of Police (DGP) of the Union Territory as the Director of Civil Defence.

Meanwhile, the District Magistrates (DMs) of Leh and Kargil districts have been appointed as Civil Defence Controllers (CDCs) in their respective districts.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (2) of Section 4 read with clause (f) of Section 2 of the Civil Defence Act 1968 (27 of 1968), the LG of Union Territory of Ladakh hereby appoints the Director General of Police, UT of Ladakh as Director of Civil Defence, Union Territory of Ladakh,” read an order issued by Dr Pawan Kotwal, Chief Secretary and Administrative Secretary of the Home Department in the UT of Ladakh.
“The Director of Civil Defence shall exercise such powers and perform such duties as prescribed under the Civil Defence Act 1968 as well as under the rules and regulations made thereunder to ensure effective implementation and management of Civil Defence measures in the UT of Ladakh,” the order further said.
Another order said, “In exercise of the by sub-section (1) of Section 4 read with clause (f) of Section 2 of the Civil Defence Act 1968 (27 of 1968), the LG of Union Territory of Ladakh hereby appoints DMs of Kargil and Leh districts as Controller of Civil Defence in their respective jurisdictions.”
“The Controllers shall exercise such powers and perform such duties as prescribed under the Civil Defence Act 19688 as well as under the rules and regulations made thereunder to ensure effective implementation and management of Civil Defence measures—within their respective jurisdictions,” the order said.
