DGP directs for forming cyber-crime investigation teams

JAMMU, Feb 23: To avert the growing trend of cyber crimes and frauds, the Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh has issued a circular directing to form teams of well-trained officers to handle the cyber-crime investigation.
The circular copy which has been forwarded to Special DGP Crime, J&K, ADGP, Jammu Zone and IGP Kashmir reads that teams of well-trained officers shall be formed to handle cyber-crime investigations in their each unit/wing and ‘Cyber Awareness Day” shall be observed on the first Wednesday of every month to create awareness on cyber related frauds in all vernacular languages.
It further reads that in order to educate public/private sector and increase cyber resilience of the national event, may include Phishing simulations, Quiz Contacts, lectures, Audio-Visuals presentation on “Best Practices”, Social Media Hygiene, Short films, Poster/ leaflet etc, in local languages, Intelligence operations “Whole of Nation”.
Pertinent to mention that with the boom in digital platform/markets etc and digital services provided by different banks and institutions including Government departments, cyber frauds, phishing etc cases are reported. This step will go a long way in making people aware and will also sharpen investigation skills of the J&K Police investigation officers handling the cyber crimes.
Meanwhile, the DGP Dilbag Singh has sanctioned scholarship and reward of over Rs 2.25 lakh in favour of 35 wards of serving and deceased police personnel.
Scholarship of Rs 5000 each has been sanctioned in favour of 25 school going wards of deceased police personnel for the academic session 2020-21 and 2021-22. These wards are pursuing education in different classes from primary to graduation.
DGPs Special Reward of Rs 10000 each alongwith Commendation Certificate Class-I has been sanctioned in favour of ten wards of serving police personnel who have qualified different Competitive Examinations during the year-2021.
Those wards include Umer Inayat and Raja Mehran for qualifying M F Sc examination while Prabjot Singh, Suhani Bhardwaj, Priya Devi, Rizwan Ahmad Dar, Inam Pathan, Sahil Ashraf and Aayush Khokhar have qualified B. Tech examination.
The scholarship and DGPs reward has been sanctioned out of the Central Police Welfare Fund.
