JAMMU, Aug 22: Dogra Front and Shiv Sena (DFSS) today staged a protest and blocked Parade-Moti Bazar road against non availability of water, electricity and bad condition of roads.
The residents of Moti Bazar, Dewan Mandir, Pacca Danga, Jain Bazar and Rani Park also joined the activists of DFSS and took to streets to protest frequent and unscheduled power cuts, erratic water supply and bad condition of roads.
While addressing the gathering, DFSS president, Ashok Gupta said the water logging due to incessant rains is adding up to the woes of people with most of the areas getting inundated and bumpy and patchy roads exposing commuters and the road users to risk.
“This is perpetual problem, as the Government has not learned lessons from monsoon wrath in the past few years”, he said and added that due to absence of any exigency plan, the situation becomes beyond control at times.
He alleged that the entire Jammu region is without power in this hot and humid weather. “The long duration power cuts along with fluctuation and low voltage have made the lives of people miserable”, he added.
The women, children, old aged person and heart patients are suffering due to power cuts and there is no drinking water for the people. He stated that the people are purchasing water from the private water tankers, as the department is unable to meet the requirement.
He said the most of the transformers in the constituency are not working which has made people suffer badly. He said once burnt there is no one to replace them. He demanded to stop unscheduled power cuts in Jammu city where the power supply infrastructure and the transformers are defunct and under capacity.
