JAMMU, Aug 12: The workers of Dogra Front and Shiv Sena (DFSS) under the leadership of their president, Ashok Gupta, today held a protest in Jammu city against the Article 35A, alleging that it has enslaved the women of the state.
The protesters said that the article 35A is legally questionable, as a resident woman marrying outside the State loses her permanent resident status while the same is not applicable to male members, who may marry outside the State.
“Further, residents of the State since Independence, having migrated from Pakistan, are considered non-residents, while those who immigrated to Pakistan are considered permanent residents”, they said.
The activists said that Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti yesterday stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given assurance on Article 35A. They asked the CM to clarify how PM can give assurance on the matter which is sub-judicial.
The party workers who were present at the time of protest were Ashish, Kimti, Rano, Bantu, Nikku, Pradhanu, Ganeshu, Abhishek and various others.
