JAMMU, Apr 28: Drugs and Food Control Organization (DFCO), J&K, in collaboration with Kathua and Akhnoor Pharmaceutical Associations organized awareness campaigns at Kathua and Akhnoor towns on the prevention of drug abuse, role of trade fraternity particularly with respect to supply of safe and efficacious medicines to the end users within the ambit of law.
The objective of the program was to strengthen action and cooperation of Pharma fraternity in achieving a role model society free of drug abuse. The awareness program at Kathua was attended by prominent citizens, members of Pharma trade and senior officers of the Department including Deputy Drugs Controller Mohd Iqbal Palla, Assistant Drugs Controller Kathua/Samba, Assistant Drugs Controller (HQ) Jammu and Drugs Control officers.
Speaking on the occasion, Dy Drugs Controller emphasized upon the Pharma traders to stock and sell medicinal formulations strictly in consonance to the conditions of licenses and in adherence to the mandate of law by way of procuring medicines through authorised channels to ensure the genuineness of medicinal products. He also made it clear not to indulge in procuring the medicines from unauthorised channels and also sensitized the audience to be sincere and honest in eradication of the menace of misuse of habit forming formulations.
Archana Mujoo, Assistant Drugs Controller (HQ) Jammu impressed upon the trade fraternity to strictly follow the conditions of licenses and informed that Department in its endeavor to curb the misuse of such narcotic and psychotropic substances has started a massive drive to ensure that such pharmaceutical preparations are sold for licit use only. Pankaj Malhotra, Assistant Drugs Controller apprised the participants to switch over to computerized system of billing for maintenance of records and install CCTV cameras in light of guidelines issued by Government.
Another awareness program was conducted at Akhnoor town wherein members of Chemists Association of this Sub Division attended the program under the direct supervision of Deputy Drugs Controller M I Palla.
Arvind Sharma, ADC Jammu informed that such programs are being conducted at Tehsil level as a part of `Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan’ which aims to reach out the masses and spread awareness about substance abuse and drug abuse.
