JAMMU, Dec 18: Drugs and Food Control Organization (DFCO), Jammu conducted a special drive in Chowki Choura area of Akhnoor Tehsil under the overall supervision of Mohd Iqbal Palla (Deputy Drugs Controller, Jammu) and direct supervision of Arvind Sharma (Assistant Drugs Controller, Jammu).
During the special drive, surprise checks of chemist shops in Chowki Choura and adjoining areas were conducted to ensure that such pharmacies are operating within the ambit of law. Records of the firms were put on scrutiny to ensure that the pharmaceutical preparations are being procured through authorized suppliers and genuine products are being dispensed to the patients.
Thereafter, awareness programs under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan was conducted in the Community Hall of Chowki Choura and Jourian Tehsil Headquarters wherein the pharmacists were impressed upon to ensure that safe, quality and efficacious drugs are provided to the patients/end users.
Speaking on the occasion, Assistant Drug Controller Jammu (ADC) Arvind Sharma informed that the Government has initiated pro active measures by constituting District level Monitoring Committee under NCORD to curb the menace of drug abuse and rehabilitate the affected youth. He directed the trade fraternity to install CCTV Cameras in their premises and adopt computerized system of billing for maintenance of records. He also called upon to keep complete records of the sale of insulin syringes as they could also be misused by nefarious elements.
Drug Inspector Amit Mahajan informed that surprise inspections are being carried to ensure that such medicinal preparations are being stocked for sale in permissible quantities under rules with proper maintenance of records. He directed the chemist fraternity to conduct sale of such medicinal preparations in the quantity prescribed only against the prescription of doctor and to keep a record of complete information of consumers
