JAMMU, Oct 19: 6th day of ongoing Navratra Festival at Shri Lakshmi Narayan Mandir, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, was marked with devotional songs and enthralling dance shows, based on religious themes in the temple complex. IGP Jammu, Danish Rana, was chief guest on the occasion.
The religious dance evening began with traditional Ganesh Vandana presented by a group of 18 students. The students of Dogra Hr. Sec. School & Rich Harvest School mesmerized the gathering through their enchanting depiction of the epic of Ramayana and tradition of Navratras by their dance performances. The students narrated the epic of Ramayana through their speaking actions in their dance performance. The role of goddess Sita, performed by Divya Sharma, evoked thunderous applause.
The entire gathering was spell bound when the young students, attired nine goddesses, descended on the stage one by one amidst recitation of Shaloks explaining religious significance of each goddesses.
Impressed by the outstanding performances of the students, Gulchain Singh Charak, former Minister, announced cash awards of Rs 21,000/- from his own on behalf of Dogra Educational Trust for the groups which presented the epic of Ramayana and story of Navratras. Being chairman of Dogra Educational Trust, he also announced cash award of Rs 10,000/- each to other participants of the both schools. All the participants were given mementos and certificates.
Danish Rana lauded the performances of the participants and said that such performances needed to be held at different places to educate the society of our rich cultural heritage.
The president of the trust honoured the chief guest in traditional manner by presenting “Maa ki Chunni” and “Memento of Lord Shri Lakshmi Narayan ji”. The Principal of Rich Harvest School, Anita Bhatia was also honoured on the occasion.
Earlier, a large number of devotees attended the Maha Aarti.
