Devika Baisakhi Mela begins

UDHAMPUR, Apr 14: Devika Baisakhi Mela on the banks of the sacred Devika rivulet started in Udhampur district today.
District Development Commissioner, Udhampur, Dr. Piyush Singla, Additional District Development Commissioner, Udhampur Ashok Kumar, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Gurvinderjeet Singh, General Manager DIC, Suram Chand Sharma and District Information Officer, Udhampur Er. Sajad Bashir Somberai were present on the occasion.
On the occasion, the DDC said that such melas bring people of different religion, race and region closer which would help to maintain harmony amongst all the sections of the society. DDC emphasized on maintaining cleanliness of the venue and sought cooperation from the prominent citizens and visitors in making the venue a polythene free zone.
During the mela, the District Information Center, Udhampur has arranged cultural programme based on local folk culture. The historical Devika mela which started today shall continue for three days till April 16.
