Development of rural areas key priority of Modi Govt: Col Mahan

BASOHLI, Mar 6: DDC Chairman Kathua, Col Mahan Singh today performed `Bhumi Pujan’ for installation of new hand-pump amidst traditional rituals at Ward No 6, Plakh in Basohli.
The new hand-pumps are being installed in Plakh, Nagrota-Pretha, Plahi, Sandhar and Jandhrali under the District CAPEX Plan.
Speaking on the occasion, Col Mahan expressed gratitude to the PM Narendra Modi and MoS PMO Dr Jitendra Singh for taking development to remotest areas. He said more than 465 hand-pumps are being installed during the current financial year in district Kathua to overcome the problem of drinking water in the time to come. He urged upon the Panchyats to keep sufficient funds in their respective plan for maintenance purpose of these hand-pumps and also train local staff for regular repair of the same.
The DDC Chairman asserted that development of rural areas is the priority of the Modi Government and the picture of rural areas has dramatically changed during the last seven years. He said that the Central Government has prioritized the overall development of rural areas with main focus on far flung and remote areas. He said that the Union Government stands fully committed to ensure the improvement of roads and infrastructure in rural areas as proper road connectivity is the lifeline for every area and the people living there.
Col Mahan asserted that emphasis is being given on construction of more and more new water bodies in Kandi and hilly regions to conserve water level and improve the environment around us. He said that under the Jal Jeevan Mission, the Central Government is envisioned to provide safe and adequate drinking water through individual household tap connections by 2024 to all households in rural India. He added that providing safe and adequate drinking water is among the Govt’s top priorities.
Besides DDC Chairman, Hoshiar Singh, Mohinder Singh, Capt Harnam Singh, Hans Raj, Angrez Singh and other residents were present on the occasion.
