POONCH, Jan 10: Former MLC, Dr Shehnaz Ganai today said that development of Poonch has remained a distant dream for the people from this remote border district.
While addressing youth convention of the National Conference at Poonch Dak Bungalow today, Dr Ganai said that development of Poonch has remained a distant dream for the people of Poonch who are living under the `shadow of guns’ from across the border. She said the youth are the assets of any nation today. The youth here are confused because they have to travel long distance and spend all their time in getting their grievances redressed, and rather in the pace get distracted and they virtually lose their trust in the system, she said.
While referring to the issue of governance, Dr Ganai said that good governance is the key to a Nation’s progress. Government has to be committed to provide a transparent and accountable administration which works for the betterment and welfare of the common citizen. She said that preamble of the constitution starts with the word, “we the people of India….” and this clearly shows that the fountain head of all the powers is the people of this country. She said important step for this is simplification of procedures and transparency in the system. “Citizens-first” should be our mantra, our motto and our guiding principle,” she added.
She said the slow pace of work on University campus is another issue, which speaks of the sincerity of the Government towards youth who want to pursue their higher education. Over the years the people have received nothing but the false promises, be it employment or establishing the skill development centres in the area. Dr Ganai took up the matter with Secretary Higher Education for completion of the University Campus in Poonch.
On this occasion, Dr Ganai also launched the web portal Hamari Aawaz, “hamaraiaawaz.com” designed especially for facilitating the people of Poonch to highlight their issues/ problems which would be forwarded to the concerned authorities for redressal.
Dr Ganai urged upon the youth to send the messages and upload their problems on the portal so as to make the administration more accountable and responsive towards the problems being faced by the public. She said www.hamariaawaz.com is a platform for the people of Poonch/Mandi where they can register and forward their issues/problems by use of technology.
