Detenue escapes, 3 suspended

JAMMU, Dec 6: A detenue from Kot Bhalwal jail escaped from the custody of Jammu Police from trial court in Jalandhar, Punjab this afternoon. Three police personnel of Jammu Police, who had been escorting the detenue to Jalandhar jail from here, have been placed under suspension and an inquiry ordered against them.
Reports said the detenue Sonu, a resident of Jalandhar, had been lodged in Kot Bhalwal jail after his involvement in connection with recovery of narcotics in Kupwara district. He was also involved in cases of narcotics smuggling and thefts in Jalandhar, where he was taken to produce him in the trial court.
However, he gave a slip to police.
SSP Jammu Atul Goel said three police personnel, who had taken the detenue to Jalandhar from Kot Bhalwal jail, have been placed under suspension. An inquiry has been ordered against them, he added.
Mr Goel said the police personnel have lodged a report with Jalandhar police station for escape of the detenue from the trial court. Jalandhar police has been given details about the detenue and asked to trace him.
