UDHAMPUR, Dec 18: Despite various schemes and programmes undertaken to sanitize public places here,  the Udhampur town remains un-cleaned  emitting foul smell and making it difficult to the passersby.
According to members of civil society, and Morning Walkers Association,  heaps of garbage could be seen accumulated in most of the public places and many parks and markets still await sanitization thus creating  immense inconvenience for the commeners and visitors in the town.
Citing examples,  locals alleged that garbage dumps could be seen littered across the whole Udhampur city but open garbage dumps opposite J& K Bank Domail, opposite CMO office Udhampur and other  visible places being at centrally located give odd look to the town.
Rahul Sharma, Sumeet  Kumar, Amit Singh  and Rakesh Verma  told the Excelsior that when people walk along the foot path or even drive their vehicles they have to pass through an odd experience as foul smell emitting from the garbage dumps makes it worst for them. “People are prone to some dangerous diseases including respiratory diseases due to dirty environment,” they said while alleging the Municipal Committee Udhampur too has failed to get the garbage lifted from these points on regular basis.  Irked over the in-action from concerned authorities, the locals said that they also urged Deputy Commissioner Udhampur Neeraj Kumar to take the issue with concerning department and direct them for  changing  dumping sites from the city and also to lift garbage before or by 10 am within the city.
Bank Manager of J&K Bank Housing Colony said, “concerning department needs to lift garbage from the place near bank as hundreds of customers visit for banking services but it gives them an unusual experience when they have to pass by the littered garbage while visiting the bank. He said, “we have communicated to the office of DC Udhampur but response is still awaited.”
