JAMMU, Aug 28: Deputy Mayor Jammu, Baldev Singh Billawaria chaired 20th “Skill Upgradation & Self Employment” Standing Committee meeting here, today.
The meeting was attended by Standing Committee members and representatives of local trade and industry, JUDA (Jammu Urban Development Authority), (KVIP) (Knowledge, Vocational Training, and Innovation Programme) and NGOs working towards the skill development of the youth.
Billawaria, along with the Committee members discussed various ongoing skill development programs. He put forth an innovative strategy to empower the unemployed through different organisations. This groundbreaking initiative aims to provide sustainable livelihood opportunities and financial independence to the youth of Jammu.
The meeting focused on discussing strategies to reduce the unemployment rate by enhancing vocational training and improving the skillsets of the youth in the area. During the meeting, Deputy Mayor underscored the need to establish a robust framework for the “KVIP” to provide the youth with the best opportunities for skill development and employment. He emphasised that by equipping the young population with advanced skills, they can be better prepared to meet the demands of the job market, thus contributing to the overall growth and development of the region.
Deputy Mayor in his ongoing efforts to enhance the impact of the Knowledge, Vocational Training and Innovation Programmme (KVIP), highlighted the importance of establishing robust coordination between the students and the programme. During a recent meeting, Deputy Mayor had emphasised that fostering a seamless relationship between students and KVIPs is essential for achieving the programme’s objectives.
He highlighted that the success of KVIPs in reducing unemployment and empowering the youth depends on how effectively students can access and benefit from the offered vocational training and skill development opportunities.
Billawaria underscored that close collaboration between students and KVIPs will lead to better alignment of training programmes with the needs of the youth, ensuring that the skills being imparted are relevant and in demand in the job market.
He called for regular feedback mechanisms that would allow students to express their opinions, preferences, and suggestions, which will enable the programme to adapt and evolve over time. Furthermore, Deputy Mayor stressed the need for clear communication channels between educational institutions, KVIP organisers, and students.
