JAMMU, Oct 30: A deputation of Residents Welfare Association (RWA) Gandhi Nagar Jammu, led by senior BJP leader, Kr Rajeev Charak met Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Farooq Khan regarding issue against harassment of residents of Gandhi Nagar Housing Colony Jammu by J&K Housing Board, here today.
The deputation apprised the Advisor about public notice, issued by the Board dated October 8, wherein nearly 400 house owners of the said colony were asked to vacate ten feet area in the front of their houses by 7th November, 2021, failing which their boundary walls and structures raised on this strip would be demolished.
The deputation termed this public notice as illegal and urged the Advisor to intervene in the matter to save the residents of the colony from the reckless action of the authorities concerned.
“The Gandhi Nagar Housing Colony is the first well planned Colony, established in late the fifties by the then Prime Minister of erstwhile State of J&K, Bakshi Ghulam Mohammed who personally motivated Government officials, prominent citizens, educationists, businessmen, traders, politicians etc to buy the plots on very concessional rates in a bid to establish this colony,” they informed.
They further said that the colony was established with a well planned manner and its original design is not altered by any resident so far. The Town planners had kept a lot of open spaces, parks and wide roads as well as back lanes facilities in the design while establishing this colony.
Farooq Khan listened to all of their grievances and assured them he will look into this matter as well as talk with concerned authorities.
Prominent persons including Indu Bushan Sharma, Sunesh Gupta, Gopal Sahni, Bharat Bhushan Gupta and Vijay Verma were part of the deputation.
