JAMMU, Nov 28: The Department of Library & Information Sciences, University of Jammu, organized its first ever alumni meet, here today.
Mukhtar-ul-Aziz, Director, Libraries and Research, J&K Government, was chief guest on the occasion while Prof. Rajender Gupta, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences; presided over the event. Dr Urmil Gupta, one of the founder faculty members of Department, was the guest of honour. Over 100 alumni attended the meet and shared their views on professional life.
Mr Aziz enlightened the participants with his experiences in India and abroad. He also shared his valuable thoughts and need to digitalize the entire services of libraries. He also stated that role of libraries is to transform societies by providing extensive services to common man. He stressed that Librarians should play a pro-active role for formation of knowledgeable society.
Prof Rajender Gupta gave his valuable suggestions for the growth and development of Library profession. He motivated the alumni of the department to be proactive in the profession.
Dr Urmil Gupta briefed about the history and foundation of the department of library and Information Science.
Prof Sangita Gupta, Head of Department, stressed upon budding professionals to explore opportunities for exposure and highlighted the achievements of the department in brief for the last ten years. She also assured full cooperation and assistance in the form of training and learning latest techniques of serving users besides ICT application to Libraries.
Formal vote of thanks was given by Pramod Singh, Assistant Professor of the department and the meet was ably conducted by Vikram Sahi, a research scholar. Others who graced the occasion, included Ram Rattan Sharma, Swaran Jamwal, Raj Rani, Vijay Gupta , P R Vaid, M P Raina, and G R Upadhyaye.
