The drive aims to curb the mushrooming of illegal constructions in and around Pahalgam, including Dehwatoo and Panner, which violate the Pahalgam Master Plan. Officials dismantled multiple unauthorized structures during the operation.
However, the demolition faced stiff resistance from affected residents, who called the action biased and selective. “Nothing is being done about the huge structures being built in sensitive areas of Pahalgam. We are being targeted to shield the actual culprits,” a woman from the affected families alleged.
Several men and women from these families were left in shock as structures worth crores of rupees were demolished. Some even attempted to physically block the authorities from carrying out the operation.
PDA officials, however, maintained that the structures lacked proper authorization and were built in environmentally sensitive zones.
Meanwhile, the PDA has issued notices to multiple individuals involved in unauthorized construction of hotels, lodges, and houses.
