SAMBA, Feb 6: J&K Jatt Sabha president and former minister Manjit Singh today described the draft report of Delimitation Commission submitted to its members as discriminatory which has ignored Jatt community with regard to political representation.
In a statement here today, Singh said it was unfortunate to note that injustice has been repeated with the Jatt Community, refugees/displaced persons living in Jammu, Samba and Kathua’s border villages.
“The Commission has discriminated against the border villagers/ Jatt Community/DPs which have a vast population spread all over the villages starting from Kathua’s border villages up-to Akhnoor,” he said.
Singh said that the Jatt community was expecting representation in some of the assembly constituencies of the border belt from Kathua to Akhnoor.
“However, our justified demands were not accepted by the politically motivated draft report to fulfill the ambition of a political party which is scared of defeat from the people if the elections are held in J&K as they have failed to deliver on the ground,” he said.
He said, “ We oppose the draft report of the commission for neglecting Jatt community which has dominance in the border villages.”
He said that there was a need to instil confidence, and uplift political, economic and social status among the Jatt community. He also expressed his concern over the denying another instalment of the package to the DPs which was promised up to Rs 25 lakhs by then Govt of India.
“The Govt has stopped the package after disbursing Rs 5.5 lakh amount to each DP family. The DPs were waiting for the rest of the package but it was denied to them,” he said.
Singh said that the Govt should reconsider its decision in the interest of the DPs who have braved cross firing from Pakistan and lived on the border villages.
