JAMMU, Apr 3: Alleging that Delimitation Commission was playing hands in glove with BJP, Congress leader and Convener of All Parties Joint Action Committee, Fairoz Khan today shared a proposed draft for carving out Assembly constituencies in Ramban district.
He suggested to equally distribute Ramban district into three or two constituencies but not to divide Tehsil Pogal Paristan and Ramban.
“The draft proposal of Delimitation Commission has put 4 tehsils in Ramban Assembly and 6 Teshils in Banihal Assembly, part of Ramban Tehsil and Ukhral Teshil in Banihal Assembly, which is unjustified and also inconvenient for the people of the district,” he said, while addressing a press conference, here today.
The Congress leader suggested that four Tehsils should be included in Ramban constituency and four in Banihal constituency as this will also help not to disturb administrative units and population will also be equally distributed. “Ramban will have 1, 48 669 people and Banihal will consist of 1, 44,103 people. By equally distributing the tehsils in two constituencies, Ramban and Banihal will have 153 and 150 polling stations respectively,” he explained.
Mr Khan alleged that the draft notification by the Delimitation Commission has been prepared without taking into consideration the regional, geographical, social and political aspirations of the peoples of this region. It has not only created dissent but has shaken independent institutions like the delimitation commission, he added.
“We the people of Gool Sangaldan and Pogal Paristan demand that Gool-Sangaldan Constituency should be made a new constituency which will go a long way for the socio-economic development of this most backward and hilly region in the entire Jammu and Kashmir on the pattern of Padder,” he said, adding that Tehsil Pogal Paristan should be united as this area has its own history and people are culturally and geographically one unit.
