Delimitation Commission before Assembly elections demanded

JAMMU, June 9: J&K National Democratic Party Indian (NDPI) has urged the Governor to set up Delimitation Commission before Assembly elections to end regional discrimination.
In a handout NDPI president, Rajesh Gupta claimed that the Governor is competent to amend Section 47 of the Constitution to delete the objectionable provision which barred the setting up of a Delimitation Commission.
“Furthermore, Section 3 of the Representation of People Act gives Governor the mandate to constitute Delimitation Commission,” he stated.
He also stated that presently there are seven seats reserved for SC community in the Assembly and all these are in Jammu division which haven’t been rotated since 1996.
