UDHAMPUR, Apr 13: A deputation from Tehsil Majalta’s Block Khoon, called on Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur, raising serious concerns over the lack of essential staff and basic healthcare facilities at the Primary Health Centre (PHC) Khoon.
The delegation, comprising prominent citizens and social workers, led by social activist Surat Singh Sumbria- Chairman J&K DAHWA, submitted a memorandum pointing out that the absence of sufficient medical staff and facilities has been causing immense inconvenience to the locals.
As per the memorandum, several key posts at the PHC are lying vacant. Out of two sanctioned posts for MBBS doctors, both are vacant. The post of staff nurse is also vacant, while there is a shortage of multi-purpose health workers, with only one female worker in place and the male position lying vacant. Additionally, the post of cleaner/sweeper is unfilled. The Dental Technician has been attached elsewhere, affecting services.
The deputation further highlighted the lack of essential medical infrastructure, including the non-availability of dental accessories, root canal facilities, and X-ray services. Due to these deficiencies, patients are forced to travel to other hospitals for treatment, leading to delays and additional financial burden.
Expressing concern over the deteriorating healthcare scenario, the delegation stated that the worst sufferers are infants, children, pregnant women, and critically ill patients, who often face life-threatening situations due to inadequate facilities.
The delegation also raised the demand for proper utilization of funds for the construction of Aap Shambhu Ji Shiv Temple at Khoon. Acting on the request, the Deputy Commissioner directed the ADDC to prepare a DPR for the remaining work of the temple.
Highlighting public resentment in the area, the deputation urged the Deputy Commissioner to personally visit the PHC and assess its condition. They also sought immediate steps to fill vacant posts and improve healthcare infrastructure.
Additional demands included the updating of Jamabandi records in Tehsil Majalta and the utilization of grazing land (Ghas Charai) for establishing a health sub-centre in Village Nakki, Block Khoon.
The Deputy Commissioner gave a patient hearing to the delegation and assured that necessary steps would be taken to address the grievances.
Among others present in the deputation were Ex-Captain Raj Kumar, former Sarpanch Kirpal Singh, Subedar Pritam Chand, and Subedar Pardeep Singh.
